Oasis Juniors / Outreach

Oasis Juniors has been a hugely enjoyable and successful programme for both Oasis Academy and our partner primary schools. Aimed specifically at year 5 and 6 students to support them through their transition years to secondary school, the programme includes a wide range of projects and events.

The last year has seen high levels of participation in many valuable and exciting activities. Oasis staff have worked with 8 of our feeder schools, providing various outreach programmes in schools, and hundreds of students from local schools have attended our holiday clubs, fundays, after-school classes and gallery workshops. This has without doubt strengthened our links with staff and students and given many young people the opportunity to access our specialist staff and resources at Oasis Academy, as well as enabling transition students to familiarise themselves with the secondary school environment and what the academy can offer.

It is really important to us to support students who may be nervous or intimidated by the prospect of moving schools and the Oasis Juniors programme has truly allowed us to address some of the issues surrounding transition to secondary for both parent and child.

Through the Oasis Juniors programme they can meet with staff, ask questions, meet peer groups and other parents, share concerns or arrange visits to the academy and all the while enjoy the fun and educational activities on offer.

The programme is also celebrated through exhibitions and performances held at Oasis Gallery at the end of the year to showcase all the fantastic work produced by students as part of the Oasis Junior's programme.

This year we have an equally exciting programme of events planned, working with 8 primary schools; a visual and performing arts outreach programme including dance, drama, art, and music provision, after-school clubs in sports, art and core subjects, holiday activity clubs every school holiday, open days, Saturday fundays and family events. We also have a really exciting art and science project lined up for January 2010. Watch this space!

We hope to continue developing the programme, involving more schools and more activities, to include core subject provision and special projects.

For further information on the programme please contact Rebecca Fitzgerald, Arts College Manager on 01275 894 788 (After-school club, fundays, outreach programme, family funday, gallery programme) or Andrea Rea, Networking and Community Officer on 07967808442 (Holiday activity club, after-school club, family learning and coffee mornings).

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
